What to do with frozen pipes and property damage.

If your pipes freeze, first determine if they have burst. If a pipe has burst, immediately shut off the main water supply and, if there is standing water near electrical sources, shut off the electricity. If the pipe hasn't burst, you can try to thaw it using safe, indirect heat sources. In either case, you will need to document the damage and contact a professional plumber and your insurance company.

As Public Adjusters we can handle the whole claim for you from calling in the claim as well as contacting a plumber for repairs.

If one or more pipes burst from the freezing, below are the steps that need to be taken:

Shut off the water.  Locate and turn off your main water valve to prevent more flooding.

Shut off electricity: If water is near outlets or appliances, turn off the power to affected areas to prevent electrocution.

Call a plumber: A professional plumber is equipped to fix the damaged pipe correctly. All repairs for insurance purposes you should use Licensed Plumbers and Contractors to fix the damage properly and provide the supporting documentation for your insurance company.

If it’s a small water loss, you can remove the water using a mop, blot, or use a wet-dry vacuum to clean up standing water. A professional water-damage restoration company can provide faster and more thorough drying to prevent mold. Water damage can be very extensive getting inside walls and under floors. It is strongly recommended you use a Licensed Mitigation company to clean up all the water damage properly.

It is very important to properly document all the damage. Take photos and videos for your water damage insurance claim. This is also critical to getting paid the proper amount of money from your insurance company. As Public Adjusters we will document all damages in the proper format for your insurance claim.

Notify your insurance company immediately and provide documentation. You can call the claim in or as Public Adjusters we can do this for you.

Relocate your belongings, moving furniture and valuables away from wet areas. This is usually performed by the mitigation company,

We strongly recommend following the above steps as this will help us get you the maximum settlement for your water damage insurance claim.
